Free Thought 007

Free Thought 007 Growing up I was always told not to lie, because if you lied no one would believe you when you told the truth, and it’s most certainly true. I think this is why the American people and people as a whole, distrust mainstream media, politicians, and just the general populous. The media for putting ratings above the truth. The politicians for putting votes above the truth. People for trying to get fame or notoriety from not telling the truth. When I started writing I did so with a purpose, because I saw the world changing and I thought that maybe if I put a few opinions and ideas out there, somebody might hear it and it might make them see things in a different light. I don’t plan on changing people’s minds or trying to convince them one way or another on anything I write. After all, it’s just my opinion, but if my opinion can help somebody in a positive way? Well, then I’m happy to hear that. Or if my opinion effects somebody in a negative way? I’m sorry to hear that but remember I’m not trying to tell you what to do. I’m just giving my opinion on the matter. I think that has been lost nowadays. When somebody speaks their mind, everybody instantly jumps on them. I truly feel like we’re entering a phase where even the mere notion of an opinion is too much. I can’t say what started this, but if I had to guess I think it would go back to people being dishonest. I think people have become so mistrusting that even if someone tries to tell them the truth, you have to have a mountain of evidence on just an opinion. This isn’t right. When I or anybody else gives an opinion on something, that’s all it is. Yes, it may have truth behind it or it may not. That’s where you come in to do your own research. To see if someone’s opinion is right. Now I know that I trash the media a lot. The reason being that they expect us to believe everything that they say is fact. Even if they get it wrong and they’ll say ‘Oh, we can retract that.’ What if we didn’t see the retraction, we would believe what they said to be true. Especially the analysts they have on their programs. How do they get away with saying that something is one hundred percent fact, but if I look it up I can find at least ten people that disagree with it. Shouldn’t they have to say it’s just their opinion as well? Shouldn’t we hold them to the same standards as they hold us? Don’t even get me started on the politicians. Now there’s a group of people that can't even utter the words, ‘I cannot tell a lie.’ I leave with the final thoughts today. Make your word your bond. Even if someone doesn’t believe you. If you know you are telling the truth and if you just keep being honest, this is truly how we can change the people around us through example. K. West
