Free Thought 006 Today I want to talk about something I have been hearing a lot on lately. Immigration on a mass scale. Just for the purposes of full disclosure I do not believe immigration on such a large scale, that we’ve been seeing throughout the world, is a good thing. So rather than put something out there to justify why mass migration is a bad thing, I will simply give my opinion on why I feel that we need to be cautious about migration as a whole, especially when it’s in mass. The first issue I have that I think a lot of people have, is immigration without integration. If you come to a new land, it is and should be expected of you to adhere to it’s traditions, rules, and practices. When a mass migration happens there are so many people coming from the same lands that once they get to where they are going, there’s no reason for them to integrate because they are surrounded by people who speak their language and have similar backgrounds and beliefs as they do. It is good to be proud of one’s heritage but not at the cost of the host nation. All they are doing is taking the problems from one part of the world and exporting it to another, making the region they are fleeing to just as unstable as the one they had left. With the western countries, the reason they became stable was because everyone banded together and decided that they needed to do what was best for the country, the overall health, and the happiness of their citizens. I won’t lie, it hasn’t been easy, and we have stumbled along the way, but we keep trying. When it comes to migrants, the only way for them to truly gain the stability and happiness that they came to these countries for is through integration. For them to adhere to the rules put forth, for them to leave behind any prejudice they may have, and for them to really become a citizen of the new country and all that entails. As we can see with what’s going on in Europe this isn’t happening. They are taking what used to be strong and prosperous countries and turning them into third world hell holes. They are making these nations into what they had just left. If anyone thinks it is bad right now, wait until their benefits run out. When all the money is gone, it will have gone from being a third world country to a new war zone. The US is facing the same problem. The problem with having so many illegal immigrants coming from Mexico is they are less likely to integrate and more likely to bring the problems they were leaving behind. The reason why we have people basically jumping through hoops to become citizens is that they work so hard to be called an American or a European. It almost became a test of will they integrate. As you can see, Europe did away with this and look at the mess it’s in now. I worry about America for if we do not have legal immigrants, that truly took that extra step to become a citizen, integration will never happen. Without that, they will never appreciate what it means to be an American. I leave you with these final thoughts today. If you are truly pro immigration, then you should be pro legal immigration. Because without it, it will be hard for them to integrate. Without integration, they will end up in the same mess that they were in before. Is that really what you want for them? K. West
